Cahors, known for its powerful wines, its cafés and shops, and the fortified Valentré bridge from the 14th century is 16 miles away. The famous yearly "Cahors Blues Festival" attracts music lovers from all over the world, and has seen special guests such as Ray Charles, James Brown, The Blues Brothers, Popa Chubby, B.B. King, Buddy Guy or Nina Simone, perform throughout the years...

Toulouse is an hour and a half away by car, Bordeaux two and a half hours.

The nearby Lot and the Dordogne rivers, apart from their beaches and stunning surrounding landscapes, allow all sorts of activities, from boat trips to canoeing, fishing, and various water sports.

Caves & Caverns

The region contains many underground caves and open caverns to visit and pre-historic caves are situated all over the area, notably the famous site at Lascaux.

The famous "Gouffre de Padirac", an enormous chasm about 99 meters around the rim, offers eerie boat trips along a subterranean stream, passing through various underground caverns...

Les Arques is a hiking paradise (there are many marked hiking routes). Other sports include canoeing, paragliding, caving, abseiling, mountain biking, rock climbing, quad tours, horse riding, etc. There are two golf courses in the area.

The main culinary specialities are duck, foie gras, plums, prunes, mushrooms, walnuts and truffles. And of course a nice rich wine to go with it. Another good choice is goat’s cheese, often served grilled (chevre chaud) with a salad. You could also try the local aperitif wine, made from walnuts. These specialties, and much more, are served at the numerous "auberges" and restaurants around the area, including a "Two Star Michelin" restaurant a few minutes from Le Bout.

There are also wineries and castles, where you can taste the best wines of the Cahors region.
